Our Learning
We have a number of different resources that we use to support our learning. Here is an example of some of them.
SRS
The Sound Reading System is a carefully constructed advanced ‘synthetic phonic’ reading programme that teaches children how to read and teachers how to teach the complex English spelling code in simple, logical steps.
Leckie and Leckie
Primary Maths for Scotland is written to CfE experiences and outcomes, and aligned to the benchmarks. The books are clear and simple, aiming to develop conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency. Flexible and uncomplicated, the programme can fit in with existing plans and resources.
Explicitly Teaching Writing
Learners also need a teacher to model and move them along the continuum towards more complex language. For example, if a student keeps using ‘next’, and is ready for more complex vocabulary, the teacher might introduce the word ‘subsequently’. The children are doing cognitively demanding work and are learning metalanguage, a language to talk about language.
